Silencing Fear pt. 2

A few weeks ago I talked about how I need to silence my fear in regards to knowing that my God is bigger than anything that life could throw my way. (You can find that blog here) I have no reason to fear in my storms or when the world seems to be weighing against me because God is on my side. Lately I have been challenged to another perspective on fear and how it relates to the path of life that I am on.

The fear of the Lord is actually essential to our response to Jesus. Without it, we will persist on a foolish path that leads away from God toward death and grief

When people think of the word ‘fear’ they usually don’t think of it as a good thing. But, to Christians, it is everything. To fear God means to have respect or reverence. He is in authority over our lives. He is the author and perfecter over everything. When we look to Him and have respect because of His authority, we are more apt to obey and please Him with our lives. We know that if we feared the world and sin we would suffer an eternal death. But fearing God brings us eternal life. It’s out of love that we fear God. After He laid down His life because HE LOVED ME what else can I do but love Him and fear Him in return? “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18).

This weekend is such a special weekend that always brings me to tears on Friday and rejoicing on Sunday. I am constantly in awe that there is so much love in God for me that He would sacrifice His one and only Son for me. Truly what else can I do but love and fear him? Nothing on earth has my attention, love, and fear. The “fear” that’s in the world is nothing compared to what would be if I didn’t have Christ living in me. Fearing God keeps me on the right path. I am constantly corrected, refined and molded so that I become the best I can be for Him. So, in a sense, I don’t want to silence my fear for Him but silence my fear for the world and my problems. They have nothing compared to Him. He is all powerful and sovereign over everything.
